Energy Upgrade

Grant Supports

In Ireland, several grants are available to support home energy upgrades, helping homeowners improve energy efficiency.

The Better Energy Homes Scheme, managed by SEAI (Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland), offers financial assistance for insulation, heating system upgrades, and renewable energy installations like solar panels. Grants range from €300 to €6,000, depending on the project. The Warmer Homes Scheme provides free energy upgrades to low-income households. Additionally, the Deep Retrofit Pilot Scheme offers funding for extensive home retrofits. These grants help reduce energy bills, enhance comfort, and contribute to Ireland’s climate action goals by reducing carbon emissions from homes.

Solar PV Panels

The Solar PV Scheme which operates under the Microgeneration Support Scheme, is funded by the Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment through SEAI. All applications are subject to the following conditions:

To qualify for the grant, you must ensure you have created a solar PV grant application and that approval is in place before proceeding with works.

Once you have received Grant approval, you will have 8 months to complete the works and submit the declaration of works. It’s extremely important these timelines are adhered to ensure your grant payment. After 8 months the grant will expire and will be declined.

There will be a change in the Solar PV grant amount effective from 1st January 2025. The maximum grant value will be reduced from the current cap of €2100 to €1800. Therefore, it is important to ensure that your application is fully completed and submitted before this date to be eligible for the higher grant amount.

Electric Vehicle

Home Charger Grant

The Electric Vehicle Home Charger Grant is a government funded support scheme assisting residents and homeowners to install an electric vehicle charge point on their property. The scheme provides a grant up to the value of €300 towards the purchase and installation of a home charger unit. To receive payment, you must ensure that you use a Safe Electric Registered Electrical Contractor.

The grant is now open to homeowners to apply for a grant, whether they own an electric vehicle or not. This charge point can also be used for visitor use or at rented accommodation.

Funding for the EV Home Charger scheme is provided by Zero Emission Vehicles Ireland (ZEVI) based in the Department of Transport. SEAI operates this grant scheme on behalf of ZEVI.

Commercial

Non-Domestic Microgen Grant

The Non-Domestic Microgen Grant (NDMG) provides financial assistance to help businesses and other sectors to install solar PV panels to generate electricity on site. This technology reduces commercial electricity costs and increases security of supply, while enhancing a positive sustainability image. Grant funding is available for systems up to a maximum 1000kWp.

Solar panels that produce electricity are known as solar photovoltaic (PV) modules. Experience many benefits when you choose to install solar PV:

  • Reduce your electricity costs
  • Demonstrate your commitment to sustainability
  • Contribute to reaching Irelands Climate goals
  • Receive a government grant of up to €162,600

The grant amount you receive is based on the standard output of your solar PV system. A solar PV system with an output of a maximum 1000kWp can be grant funded through the scheme. If the system installed is larger than 1000kWp, then the applicant may apply for the maximum grant offering of €162,600* and this is available for systems from 1kWp to a maximum of 1000kWp.
